Mompiche is located in the province of Esmeraldas that is located in the north west corner of Ecuador. The major towns of this province are Esmeraldas, Atacames with its surroundings, Same, Tonchigüe, and Muisne. There are several small villages around or in-between and Mompiche is one of them.
Mompiche is located at around 6 km from the main highway. The closest town to Mompiche is called Tres Vias its 10 minutes away by car. Tres Vias is located in the highway. There is a T interseccion in the highway where you have to turn and get out of the highway to get to Mompiche. Tres Vias is located 2 minutes away from the T intersection to Mompiche.
There are two possible routes you can take from Quito to Mompiche.
1. Get a bus, or drive to Atacames, then get another bus going south directly to Mompiche or one going to Chamanga (a small town south of Mompiche) The bus From atacames to Mompiche takes around 2 hours. If you are in a private vehicle it should take 1 hour approximately. If you catch the bus to Chamanga tell the driver to drop you off in “Tres Vias” where you can get a taxi to Mompiche or wait to a bus that goes specifically to Mompiche.
2 Go to Pedernales (medium size town in the northwest point of the province Manabi that borders the province of Esmeraldas.)
With car: from Pedernales drive 1.5 hours north until you reach the entrance (T intersection in the highway) to Mompiche.
In bus: take a bus to Chamanga, then take another bus going to Atacames and tell the driver to drop you off in “Tres Vias” where you can get a taxi to Mompiche or wait to a bus that goes specifically to Mompiche. In this case you will pass the T interseccion towards Mompiche, get off in Tres Vias and then come back in a taxi or a bus directly to Mompiche. It is easier to get a ride to Mompiche from Tres Vias than from the T interseccion in the highway.
If you are going by bus take route number one, going to Atacames where you will find direct buses to Mompiche.
If you go to Pedernales by bus, you will have to take more buses!
By bus: get a bus directly to Esmeraldas, Atacames or Muisne. Then from any of those places get a bus directly to Mompiche or one to Chamanga (a small town south of Mompiche) The bus From Atacames to Mompiche takes around 2 hours. If you catch the bus to Chamanga tell the driver to drop you off in “Tres Vias” where you can get a taxi to Mompiche or wait for a bus that goes specifically to Mompiche.
By Car: You have many options. You can travel along the ocean towards the north or you can travel inland up to Santo Domingo (big town) and then go to Pedernales. Check the map for all the possible routes.
